“Julie & Julia” is a 2009 comedy-drama written and directed by Nora Ephron. It stars Merle Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tucci, and Chris Messina. The film follows the life of Julie Powell (Adams), who decides to cook through all 524 recipes in Julia Child’s first cookbook while she blogs about it as it propels her to fame. The movie contrast Julie’s struggles with the early life of Julia Child (Streep) before she found fame with her that first cookbook. The film is clever in the way it contrasts the two women in two different eras both who are trying to define themselves. The film is a refreshing break. It is a good B+ film with Streep giving an amazing performance.
The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this film with Kronenbourg Blanc Beer. This is a Belgian style witbier with an ABV of 5.0% from France. It pours a cloudy yellow with a small head that dissipates quickly leaving some lacing. It smells of wheat and flowers with hints of orange. The beer hits your tongue with wheat, bread, something like cream, and orange citrus notes with a quick finish. I picked this to reflect the time that Child spent in France. Her French experience with cuisine is the driving force of the film and I thought it should be so with the beer I selected for it.
